Goldman Sachs reaped a windfall from SpaceX's initial public offering (IPO), and has arranged a $450 million charitable donation in advance.

Goldman Sachs has earmarked a portion of the proceeds it received from wealthy clients’ record-breaking SpaceX initial public offering (IPO) for an early $450 million charitable donation. When the bank released its third-quarter results on Tuesday, it separately disclosed this special expense in its expenditure items, noting the charge reduced diluted earnings per share by roughly $1. Over five years ago, Goldman Sachs helped wealthy clients invest in Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Earlier this year, the aerospace firm went public at a $1.77 trillion valuation, generating massive gains for Goldman clients who sold their shares, with the bank taking a cut of hundreds of millions of dollars from the windfall. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon hinted at this arrangement in September, saying the bank could use the unexpected proceeds to make an early large-scale charitable donation, as it is more tax-efficient to do so.

Ledger: MediaMarkt suspends sales following German user reports of implanted hardware, with no funds lost so far

Ledger announced it has coordinated with German retailer MediaMarkt Saturn to suspend sales of Ledger devices both online and in physical stores to assist with an ongoing investigation. The move follows a report from a German user who claimed to have found a suspected implant in their purchased Ledger device. No fund losses have been reported to date, and Ledger noted there are no signs that its infrastructure, systems, or services have been compromised. The company’s customer service team is reviewing the submitted reports, while its cybersecurity team Donjon will inspect the received devices. Ledger reminded users that any questions about purchased devices should be directed to its support team via the official customer service website. The firm emphasized it will never proactively call or message users privately, nor will it request the 24-word mnemonic phrase. It also warned that many unsubstantiated claims and data are circulating online, and scammers may exploit the incident to commit fraud, urging users to only access the latest updates through official channels of Ledger and MediaMarkt Saturn.

Cipher Digital plans to issue $850 million in convertible bonds to raise funds for its data center projects.

Nasdaq-listed crypto/blockchain firm Cipher Digital (CIFR) plans to raise $850 million by issuing zero-coupon convertible notes to support its Barber Lake project and expand its high-performance computing (HPC) data center business. In an October 13 announcement, the company said the private placement could be upsized to up to $1 billion if initial purchasers exercise their option to buy an additional $150 million in notes. Additionally, Cipher plans to exchange some of its existing convertible notes—carrying a 1.75% coupon rate and maturing in 2030—for common stock. The financing comes after the firm adjusted development plans for its Barber Lake project in Colorado City, Texas; those changes extended the project’s contract term while increasing Cipher’s construction costs. In September, Cipher noted an agreement with Fluidstack and an unnamed AI lab would extend the facility’s lease term from 10 years to 20 years, lifting contracted revenue from $3.8 billion to over $9 billion.
